Some 70% of adults in the United States have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, the White House COVID-19 data director said on Monday.
This symbolic milestone is reached a few weeks after the July 4 date initially set by US President Joe Biden. Sign of the craze for vaccination, the average over the last seven days is at its highest level since early July against the backdrop of a new outbreak of cases due to the Delta variant.
The Biden administration recently released new initiatives to get more people vaccinated and demanded vaccines or regular testing for federal workers, including the military. Restrictions on overseas travel have been maintained due to concerns over the increase in cases of the more contagious delta variant, despite increasing pressure from the travel industry.
The United States currently prohibits entry to its territory for most non-citizens who, in the last 14 days, have been in the United Kingdom, European Union countries, Ireland, China, in India, South Africa, Iran and Brazil.
