Rababe Arafi qualified for the 800m semi-finals of the Tokyo Olympics

Athletics to highlight Moroccans during the Tokyo Olympics? Athlete Rababe Arafi validated his ticket for the 800m semi-finals by finishing third in the 5th qualifying series.

Hopes rest on Rababe Arafi. The Moroccan athlete, thanks to a 3rd place (2min 00sec 96), finished the race just behind the Uruguayan Deborah Rodriguez (2min 00sec 90) and the Cuban Rose Mary Almanza (2min 00sec 71).

Rababe Arafi is not the only Moroccan representative who continues the adventure. Soufiane El Bakkali also remains in the game after finishing 1st in the third series with a time of 8min 19sec 00 ahead of the Finnish Topi Raitanen (8min 19sec 17) and the French Alexis Phelut (8min 19sec 36).

For his part, Mohamed Tindouft, finished 5th in the first series (8min 15sec 91). This series which was the fastest was won by the Ethiopian Lamecha Girma (8min 09sec 83).

On the other hand, the other Moroccan Abdelkarim Ben Zahra, who achieved this Friday his best performance of the season, finished 10th (8min 26sec 63) in the second series, dominated by the Kenyan Abraham Kibiwot (8min 12sec 25).

To compete in the 3000m steeplechase final, scheduled for next Monday at 1:15 p.m., athletes had to finish in the top three of their series or be among the next six fastest times.

The 800m semi-finals will be played on Saturday, while the final will be played on August 3 at the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo.
