Despite this postponement, the Festival Foundation will continue to present its industry and talent development program with the fourth edition of the Atlas workshops which will take place online from November 22 to 25 with the support of Netflix. This follows a similar path to 2020, when the Moroccan festival was also canceled and the Atlas workshops, launched in 2018, moved online.
The mission of the workshops is to support the new generation of Moroccan, Arab and African filmmakers through a tailor-made consultation, as well as to expose them to the international market through the presentation of their projects during a co-production market.
The Marrakech Festival, which attracts a host of international and Hollywood stars, has also struggled to grow in recent years, having missed 2017 due to a reported lack of sponsorship.
The FIFM returned in 2018 under the leadership of Christoph Terhechte as artistic director, who resigned after two editions. Rémi Bonhomme, veteran of the Cannes Critics’ Week, was appointed artistic director in early 2020.
