Illegal immigration: 87 Algerian migrants intercepted on the Spanish coast
Madrid – Seven inflatable boats carrying 87 Algerian illegal migrants were intercepted overnight from Sunday to Monday on the Alicante and Murcia coasts, local authorities and emergency services announced on Tuesday.
In Alicante, elements of the rescue services and the Civil Guard located five boats on the coasts of Santa Paola, Benidorm, Pilar de la Horadada and Alfas del Pi, with 59 illegal migrants of Algerian origin on board, including two minors. .
Two other boats carrying 28 Algerians were intercepted near the coast of Cartagena (Murcia), said the delegation of the Spanish government.
Algerian clandestine migrants, found in good health, were taken care of by the services of the Red Cross.
According to Spanish local authorities’ tally, 73% (4,005) of irregular migrants who reached the peninsula and the Balearic Islands in the first half of the current year were Algerians.
